Installation of electrical ground power units for external aircraft power supply

As part of the FS-e-FUTURE project, which aims to install key infrastructure to support the electrification and decarbonization of our ground handling services at Ljubljana Airport by the end of 2026, we carried out the first installation in December 2024. This involved the installation of four fixed electrical ground power units for the external aircraft power supply, which we began using in mid-January 2025.

Each electrical ground power unit consists of multiple components, among others there is a unit on the airbridge frame connected to a fixed unit at the steps of the terminal with power and communication cables. Training for employees on the use of the new units was also conducted. The new electrical ground power units will provide electrical energy to aircraft during ground handling, helping to reduce emissions and the use of auxiliary power units.

Some interesting technical details about the new units at Ljubljana Airport: each electrical ground power unit can operate within a temperature range of -20°C to +45°C, has an output power of 90 kVA, a power factor of 0.8, and operates at a voltage of 200/115 V with a frequency of 400 Hz.
