British Airways, the founding member of the  Oneworld  alliance, has returned with flights to Ljubljana Airport on August 20. At the moment flights are scheduled until the end of the Summer Timetable.

You can take a look at the detailed flight schedule  here.

Janez Krašnja, M. Sc., Head of Airline Management in Fraport Slovenija  expressed satisfaction with the comeback of the British flag carrier:  »One of the most popular connections with the Slovenian air travellers is returning. We are pleased that the tourist and economic ties between Slovenia and the United Kingdom will be strengthened again on its wings, and we hope that a favourable epidemiological situation will enable the connection to be strengthened with more frequent flights.«

Soon, on September 8, the low-cost carrier  easyJet is also to establish a connection to London, with two weekly flights to Gatwick. Eagerly awaited novelty at Ljubljana Airport is the  arrival of flyubai, which has announced to establish flights from Ljubljana Airport to Dubai on September 24.

Despite a slow easing of travel restrictions around the world the offer of flights is getting bigger at Ljubljana Airport. We expect 15 scheduled flight connections by end of October. It is encouraging that the number of flights on existing destinations is growing and announcements for the Winter Season look promising.

At the moment, besides British Airways, these carriers are offering flights from Ljubljana Airport:

  • Aeroflot (three times weekly to  Moscow),
  • Air France (daily to  Paris),
  • Air Montenegro (twice weekly to  Tivat),
  • Air Serbia (nine times weekly to  Belgrade),
  • Brussels Airlines (five times weekly to  Brussels),
  • Iberia(twice weekly to  Madrid),
  • LOT Polish Airlines (six times weekly to  Warsaw),
  • Lufthansa (fifteen times a week to  Frankfurt),
  • Swiss International Airlines (five times weekly to  Zurich),
  • Transavia (three times weekly to  Amsterdam),
  • Turkish Airlines (five times weekly to  Istanbul),
  • Wizz Air (twice weekly to  Brussels, Charleroi).

Until the end of October, we expect one more destination to be added to our flight network –  Air Montenegro will establish flights to Podgorica.

Charter traffic strengthened

Charter traffic  has strengthened this Summer Season compared to last year with an attractive offer of Slovenian travel agencies. The most popular destinations are the  Greek islands, Antalya in Turkey, Djerba in Tunisia, to Sharm-El-Sheikh and Hurghada in Egypt, Barcelona, Madeira and Tenerife.

July with varied traffic

The current health situation is still obstructing the recovery of air traffic in Europe to reach the levels it had been recording before the pandemic and travelling still remains burdened with limitations when crossing borders. It is encouraging, that with more than 66.500 passengers in July at Ljubljana Airport we have recorded the busiest month this year, which represents a 211-percent increase compared to July 2020. Although the number of handled passengers is still strongly below the numbers from 2019, signs of recovering demand for air travel can be seen.
