FS-e-FUTURE

At Fraport Slovenija, as part of our strategic priority on climate protection and our decarbonisation strategy, we strive to significantly reduce our carbon footprint by 2030 and achieve full decarbonisation by 2045. One of our initiatives to achieve this goal is the project Fraport Slovenija for e-FUTURE (FS-e-FUTURE), within which we will by the end of 2026 install key infrastructure to support the electrification and decarbonisation of our ground services at Ljubljana Airport. The project is co-financed by the European Union.

Investment worth 2.34 million euros

This is a substantial investment worth 2.34 million euros, of which Fraport Slovenija has successfully secured 1.1 million euros in non-repayable EU grants through the CEF Transport Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility call for proposals, issued under the auspices of the European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).

Project aims for ground services electrification by 2026

Within the FS-e-FUTURE project, running from July 2024 to October 2026, we will:

  • install a new transformer station,
  • set up five fixed electrical ground power units for external aircraft power supply,
  • eight mobile electrical ground power units for external aircraft power supply,
  • acquire a mobile electric cooling unit for aircraft during servicing, and
  • a charging station for electric vehicles.

What will be the effects of the FS-e-FUTURE project?

With the new infrastructure for alternative fuels, at Fraport Slovenija we will:

  • reduce our carbon dioxide emissions,
  • increase energy savings,
  • reduce noise levels,
  • and with the establishment of comprehensive infrastructure for electric aircraft charging, we will be ready for the landing of electric-powered aircraft when they become available.

By electrifying ground services at the airport, we also directly contribute to the goals of the European Green Deal, improve air quality and consequently health conditions for residents near the airport.

Part of the Fraport Group project

The project is part of the Fraport Group - The Path to CO2 Freedom for the FRAPORT Group - project, which aims to achieve full decarbonisation of all airports in the group by 2045 and encompasses three pillars: electrification of ground services, optimization of energy consumption and energy efficiency, and the introduction of photovoltaic systems to generate emission-free green energy.
